Deep Thoughts Edition :: Daily Grind #161

One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. Oh, no, I said. Disneyland burned down. He cried and cried, but I think that deep down, he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.

If you grew up watching Saturday Night Live in the 1990's, often the best part of the show was when Phil Hartman would intone, "...And now, Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey". These were tiny interstitial segments between sketches narrated off-screen by Jack Handey himself. That's right, Jack Handey is a real guy not a made-up funny name like most assumed. He was a writer on SNL from 1985-1998 and then again during the 2001-2002 season. He's also written many humor books, the latest of which is ingeniously titled The Stench of Honolulu: A Tropical AdventureIn this edition of Daily Grind, I'm alternating between Handey's Deep Thoughts and some actual deep thoughts happening all over the world and in the news today.
